Welcome
Like most of you, I have become greatly disturbed by the dramatic changes taking place in Washington. For Young Americans like me, the future looks very bleak and I am deeply concerned we will inherit a country in crisis.
In the summer of 2009 I graduated law school only to enter the worse job market in decades. Like many of my classmates and others my age, I struggled to find a job for months. To make matters worse, I watched as our government pursued policies that would not only prolong the recession but would dig us deeper into debt that my generation would have to pay back. Our leaders think massive spending, larger deficits, and greater government control is the answer. Clearly, it is not.
These policies are moving us country farther and farther from the founding principles that made America the most free and prosperous country in the world. The Founders wanted a limited federal government with only specific powers. Today, the federal government is getting larger, stronger, and reaching further into the lives of the people. It has stretched its Constitutional restraints to the breaking point. Our political leaders have lacked foresight in their policy, content with passing this mess off to the next generation. To avoid being handed this disaster, Young Americans must make their voices heard and become active in the political process more than ever before.
Restore America’s Legacy supports candidates that believe in limited government, strict interpretation of the Constitution, the rule of law, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and strong national defense. These core principles are the legacy of our Founding Fathers left to us over two hundred years ago. The Founding Fathers strongly advocated these principles over two hundred years ago and we must act to ensure our government does not continue on the path deviating from them. By restoring these principles, the United States will again become a strong a prosperous nation that future generations will inherit with pride.
Candidate Selection Criteria
Restore America’s Legacy uses a unique candidate selection criteria in order to find the most qualified and effective candidates. RAL looks closely at the candidate’s background, professional history, public record, issue positions, writings, speeches, and any other information that may be helpful in determining if they are deserving of our endorsement.- Candidate Background: A candidate must have substantial experience outside of politics such as working in the private sector or serving in the military, law enforcement, medicine, education or other non-political activities. If a candidate has previously served in public office, they must have a strong record of promoting policies consistent with the Five Principles.
- Supports the Five Principles: A candidate must support limited government, adherence to the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and strong national defense. The candidate must have policy proposals consistent with those Principles.
- Positive Campaign & Mastery of Issues: Candidates must demonstrate extensive knowledge of the issues and public policy. Simply restating general talking points or criticizing the current administration is not enough.
- No Career Politicians: Candidates must support Congressional Term Limits or pledge to limit their term voluntarily (12 years or less). Current Representatives and Senators that have served twelve years or more in federal office are ineligible for endorsement.
- Competitiveness: Candidates must demonstrate their campaign has the organization and resources to compete in the general election. Candidates must also have some reasonable chance of victory in the election, even if it is only a slight chance.
- Integrity and Transparency while in Office: Candidates must support the abolishment of earmarks, never sponsor or request an earmark while in office, never vote for a bill they have not read, make themselves available for open town hall meetings, and otherwise be accessible to constituents.
