Canseco is a successful businessman and philanthropist.  He has worked with small banks and other businesses in the area for a number of years.  He also helped establish the Canseco Foundation, which has helped with providing healthcare to children and the less fortunate, provide scholarships, and funding for Texas A&M’s School of Nursing. 

Canseco is also a board member for Children Advocates San Antonio (CASA), an organization that helps abused and neglected children find new homes.

Why he wins our Endorsement
Texans are strong proponents of a limited federal government and states’ rights.  Canseco is part of that tradition.  He is openly critical of the Republican Party’s policies during the Bush Administration – particularly their failure to control spending and expansion of government programs.  More importantly, the 23^rd District is a border district.  Canseco believes strongly that we must secure our borders first and strongly opposes amnesty.  In a district with a huge Hispanic population, one would think that position would be wildly unpopular.  Canseco was not afraid to express his position on the issue and it is becoming apparent that many in the district agree with him.  Canseco can help break the myth that Hispanic Americans vote as a bloc on immigration issues and in other areas.  Canseco has real work experience, strong ideas, and a background in selfless public service that is unmatched by his opponent.
